Hey guys, so my factory bulbs seem a little dim sometimes depending on the lighting conditions. I was wondering if anyone has tried upgrading the factory HID's to 55 watt ballasts/bulbs. It might be just me, but my '10 Impala lights looked slightly brighter with the H11 Sylvania Silverstar Ultra's I had on there. They were new bulbs as opposed to the SHO's 2 year old bulbs (and the car has 45k on it.) I know bulbs loose about 10%-20% output every year, so maybe it's just that... I figure, if OEM bulbs are going to be $150-$250 anyway, why not upgrade, right?
Here's the place I was considering:

I believe the stock bulbs are 4300K. Try upgrading to the 5000K bulbs the OEM manufacturer sells and see if that doesn't improve your situation. Don't buy a full kit unless you absolutely have to.

As it turns out, since my SHO is Canadian it doesn't have factory HID's... The factory bulbs are 9012 which are supposedly halogen bulbs that are 75% brighter than standard halogens due to HIR technology (not sure what that is yet).
US made SHO's with factory HID's use D3S bulbs and I believe the OEM color temp is 3800k.

I ended up getting an aftermarket 50 watt 5500k HID conversion from www.theretrofitsource.com to replace my 9012 halogen headlights bulbs and they should be here tomorrow. Anyone have any info on headlight removal for these cars? Seems to me it might be like my Evo, in that the bumper has to be removed. I know I don't "have" to remove it for the plug and play kit, but I was hoping to make it a neat and professional install and possibly mount the ballasts to the underside of the headlight housings.
