I'm wondering if anyone has experience in upgrading the factory non-navigation radio to either OEM navigation or aftermarket. Some ideas:

Find a used trim bezel from a parts yard and either buy the OEM screen or purchase aftermarket. Will the used trim and navigation link to my wiring harness in the same way if I use OEM? Are these systems linked directly to the vehicle? Will it need to be programmed and is this something I can do? Is there a gps sensor that needs to come along with it or is it built into the OEM screen?

Going factory seems like a less expensive option. I understand Schoshe sells an installation kit that is 300 dollars alone, and it seems like it would be another added expense with all the adapters that you have to purchase.

Thanks!

Or if I bought a double din aftermarket, could I install a used OEM trim from another Taurus equipped with navigation? Would the climate control wiring link up? I found a used trim for less than $100 bucks. Thanks!

Are you just attempting to do this for the navigation alone? If so, will it a lot of costs vs phone or tomtom...

Navigation would be nice, but I'm less concerned with that than with the functionality of the touch screen/ease of use.

You want Nav feature or a larger touch screen? Waze and google apps are better than most any nav out there.

I just want a touchscreen to make the interior look more modern. I would still use my phone for Nav. I have the sync system with no screen, just cd changer, sat radio, radio and phone.
