Ok, here is the problem...

symptoms are car getting 11mpg

CE light is on, and I get a 173 and 177 codes (O2's reading rich)

When car is shut off but is warm, it will not start back up. I pop the hood, hit the fuel pressure schrader valve on the intake, and it will start right up after that.

I tested my fuel pressure, and with key on engine off, the pressure was about 34psi. When at idle, the pressure shot up to 82psi!

Any ideas what is wrong? Fuel pump is new, O2's are new, I'm thinking a fuel pressure regulator.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

So am I correct in saying we have a winner here with this fuel pressure regulator?

Thanks a lot everyone for your help...

Sounds like the case. I got mine from Rock Auto, but the $35 one is NOT for a SHO. Make certain it says "SHO" in the listing.

You might also want to inspect the full length of the fuel return line. If the return line is crushed or restricted, the fuel rail pressure will be excessively high when the pump is running. The area where the fuel lines exit the engine compartment, just behind the right front tire and against the rear of that wheel well is especially vulnerable to damage.
