Unable to Identify EEC Codes?

Hi all, Alvin here.

I been looking most of last night trying to find out the 3-digit codes that came up. I had the guy at "Sorry we can't help you" Auto(know-nothing)Zone do the code check so he might not be able to read numbers either. Another guy tried at the Advance Auto, but he couldn't get his gizmoe working right. The codes came up with the ignition key turned on and the indicators all lit up, but the engine wasn't running.

519 - I figured that one out. Its something in the power steering pressure sensory circuit. That's in line with what it does, the power steering pulses whenever you turn the steering wheel.

721 - Looked high and low, but found nothing nowhere.

251 - Same as above, looked high and low, but found nothing nowhere.

Well at about 1:30AM I was getting frustrated and gave up. Sometimes this Internet searching business gives me more headaches than what its worth. But I really did look everywhere including searching the forums here, but those two codes must be in some alien language.

If you all can help me with a 721 and a 251, I'd be filled with much gratitude. Thank you.

Well Chris I thank you.

The codes I listed are what the gentleman from Auto(know-nothing)Zone wrote out on a piece of paper. From looking at your testing procedures you have to have some kind of a clue and the ability to read a code checking box. It doesn't look like the guy at Auto(know-nothing)Zone had either. I'll go over your procedures again. I know how to use and read a analog volt meter and I have one, so looks like I can sit down and do this one with your instructions. Thanks again.

Don't bother with the analog meter. Just install the jumper and watch the CEL flashes.

The PSP (Power Steering Pressure) switch doesn't cause pulsing in the steering. It is there to tell the computer that there is a additional pressure in the PS system (from turning the wheel) so that the computer can compensate engine speed to handle the added load.

251 and 721 are not valid codes. Probably equipement or operator error.

About the 519 code. I don't know what is causing the pulsing, but I just took a wild guess that because the code says there is something giving out an out of range reading (probably voltage?) in the PSPS circuit and the steering is acting goofy (pulses when I cut the wheels) the code and the pulsing might be related. But if you got an idea what is making the power steering pulsate when I cut the wheel, I'm all ears.

By the way, the station where I normally get my free air from had a busted pump. I liked using it because you just set the pressure using a hand crank and when your tires are full, it stops pumping air. So I go out and buy a gauge and come to find that all the tires are inflated at 25lbs instead of, well I go 31 in front and 29 in back. So I pumped them all up to where they supposed to be, and that pulsing problem improved a lot, but it still didn't go away. Amazing how much better the ride got and the handling improved with more air. Which leads me to another minor question. I don't have a owners manual, so what is the tire pressure supposed to be? I know the tires say what the max is, but the manual gives you the mfg recommended inflation.

Well heres yet another question. Does anybody know where I can get a owners manual for this '94? I got a PayPal account, so if anyone has an extra, I'd be interested if the price is right.

There should be a label on the driver's side doorjam with information for tire pressure. I wouldn't waste money on a owner's manual. If you're looking to buy a manual, get yourself a good repair manual.

Ignore the 519 code until you get read the codes accurately. With two codes that are no good, chances are the third is also no good, but just by happenstance it had a corresponding definition to the number where the other two didn't.

As mentioned, you don't need a meter, just a metal paperclip or short piece of wire, a functioning check engine light bulb, and a piece of paper and a pen/pencil will come in handy too.
