Hey guys

New guy here wondering what types of oil are you guys using.
year and mileage?
I have a 95 5-speed 151000 miles and this point i am using basic
valvoline 5/30 but this motor could probably benefit a better type.
any suggestions

thanks Don :evil_gri:

If you like Valvoline oil and have a local Napa nearby, then do some cost comparison because they are the exact same oil. In my area the Napa oil (purchased at Napa) is 20 or so cents cheaper per quart than Valvoline oil found anywhere else (even Walmart).

I use Castrol GTX High Mileage, FWIW.

I also recommend Castrol GTX High Mileage. The stuff is great. Ive been using it on my brother's 212K 89 for quite some time now. Oil consumption has gone down quite a bit and the internals look alot cleaner now. I would even recommend it for lower mileage engines too.

292,100 miles on Castrol GTX 10W-30 and Motorcraft FL-400S filters. There were short periods when I tried Castrol Syntec 10W-30 (stopped using due to noisy start-ups) and Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W-30 (returned to regular GTX after replacing the leaking camshaft seals). I replaced the connecting rod bearings at 269,000 miles as preventative maintenance and not due to rod knock.

Mine has had Amsoil since first 1,000 mls. Car getting to 246,000 miles. This is the only engine I own with synthetic. Because of history of this car, I am sticking to it.

I use Mobile 1 5w-30 and a can of that engine restore stuff so it doesn't smoke.

Please don't take this post as a flame - it's not. I'm looking at your sig and the cars you have destroyed. How on earth have you done it? I rallied a Corolla for years and never during all the abuse that a car takes during rallying have I ever blown an engine or transmission. I can sort of understand the Mitsubishi rings faling, but a Corolla and a SHO? By the way, I once used an 87 Dodge Colt (actually a Mitsubishi) as a rally car. The car had been owned by my sister for 5000 miles from new and had been maintained properly. The service manual for the engine called for three different grinding angles to be present on the valves. At 5000 miles there was only 1. It simply wasn't built according to spec. Remember the Mitsubishi 2.6L engines in 1980's Chryslers? Talk about oil burners. So much for Mitsubishi quality! You had a crushed oil pan an a T-Bird? How? I use 5W30 Mobil 1 in my SHO and it has never had a smoking problem. I don't think it's 1990 cars that are the problem. I think you need to treat your cars with more respect. Your SHOs blown diff backs up my statement.

Just keep using your regular oil and, perhaps, remove the oil from your wells with the "sprayer" part of a spray bottle. Wipe the wires as clean as you can get them and save up some green for valve cover/plug well gaskets, new wires and plugs.
