Engine turns over but does not fire. will fire if little bit of starting fluid is added. has gas in tank. it seems to have fuel pressure.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Which SHO is this? Any codes? Did you run it for a hosrt period of time before shutting it off last? Any symptoms?

Could be as easy as holding down the gas pedal or as far as changing some difficult sensors. More info is definitely needed.

BTW, welcome to the forum. :thumb:

if some one sprays starting fluid while you crank it and it starts, then its a fuel problem, does the fuel pump run for a second or 2 when you first turn the key?

Yes sounds like a fuel issue. You may or may not be getting any fuel pressure. Like the poster above listen for the fuel pump noise when you turn the key to the ON position. The best way would be to put a fuel pressure gauge on the thing.

Its a 95 ATX

I got one code 211 something about iratic ignition pickup. the tranny guy checked for codes and got none cleasred it so i know its not an old code. then he clearded 211 code and researched for codes and nothing came up.

It ran fine as far as i know i bought it with a shot tranny, idled fine tho. went to pick it up and wouldnt start. prolly 10 mins earier the tranny guy said he fired it up, ran good on the test drive then he parked it.

it pops when u add starter fluid then dies.

thanks.

its more of a pop like it wants to run, it will fire for a sec then its back to the cranking.

the pump runs for a sec when u turn the key on.

could the high pressure pump be bad and the low pressure pump ( the one that you hear priming it) be good.

thanks

i think i have pressure just cuz i pushed down the valve that you hook the tester up to and it released pressure but i dont know if its at the proper pressure. im going to have to run a pressure test.

thanks for all the help, this forum is awesome

yeah do a pressure test, im still learning SHO's but i am pretty sure ther eis only 1 pump in the tank an dit primes at start up and runs the car. i dont know what cracnking PSI should be though, im sure some one else here does. the fact it runs under spray leans toward no fuel getting into the motor, the tranny guy was sure to hook up all wire corectly including all grounds and what not?

this probly wont help i guess i just got lucky (knocks on wood). hit the reset swich on the fuel pump on the left side of ur trunk. i had a similar problem where it would turn over and not start so i tried all this stuff yall are talkin about (codes, pressure, ect). finally hit the switch then put the key in and turned it to get the pump on and then turned the key and it started right up.
good luck.

If he ran it for a short period of time, he possibly could have flooded it. Sounds odd though since you said it pops like it wants to run.

When you crank it, does the tach bounce up at all? Have you tried pumping (so solve a bad IAB/IAC) or holding the gas pedal (cuts off injectors if car is flooded) while cranking to see if anything happens?

it wasnt flooded. regarding the tach i dont know.

just an hour ago my dad called and said they got it running. the auto fuel shut off was popped, but the reset button didnt show it was popped. the tranny guy popped it and reset it and now it is running again.

thanks for all your help
