How do I get the rear cam shaft pulley matched up with the timing mark? Every time I turn it jumps past the mark. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

remove all the spark plugs that way it's no longer compressing. My guess is that right before the timing mark it changes from a compression stroke to an exhaust stroke.

if you go real slow and easy, you can get it to sit where it needs to be...however, keep your fingers clear of the edge of the gear, cuz should it jump, them teeth will make you bleed...

+1. That rear is a *****, any way you slice it. you just have to be reeeeeally slow and reeeeeeeally careful. It can be done; I've gotten it on the first try before but it's taken a lot of practice to get there. Just keep rotating (a 3/8 ratchet on a 10mm socket on one of the pulley bolts makes it a bit easier) and you'll eventually get it. Just make sure not to go past the mark...

Gloves and patience. I would get it just close enough then try and nudge it just a little and it would snap down so like superho said, watch your fingers.

get someone to hold a box wrench on one of the cam bolts for you ?

its not what stroke the engine is on that causes it to jump, its the fact that one set of valves is on a lobe, and the spring pressure wants to rotate the cam, and theres no way to stop it from happening

Pulling the spark plugs will not accomplish anything - the reason it wants to jump is the spring pressure on the cam lobes, which are the same whether there is compression in the cylinder of not.....

I used a strap wrench, and it kept jumping passed so do I just need to spend more time with it? Or what else can I do?

I used a T-handle and a socket, and held it firmly with one hand while I slid the belt on.

The advantage to using a T-handle over a ratchet is that its solid whether your going clockwise or counterclockwise so it wont click backwards on you. A longer handle helps, and getting in a comfortable position with your arm so you can brace the handle form spinning when you get it just right.
