I'm not very sure what the problems is and hope that someone here can help me, I'll try my best to explain it.

When I turn left the steering wheel does not straighten out on its own, it as if it locks up. Especially if I turn left and give it gas. I have to let off the gas and manually turn the steering wheel back to the straight position. Also, if I turn real sharply to the left I do get a loud clunk and when I turn back I may get that loud clunk again. When I turn right… the steering wheel does straighten out on its own and easily, but I can tell there is a little resistance. Nothing like turning left though….

Would this be a bad mount of some sort? Like a sub frame mount? Any help would be appreciated!!

Agreed.

At this point, it won't hurt anything to completely flush out the power steering fluid, and replace with a good synthetic. This has been known to work wonders in some cases, and do nothing in others.

Maybe you'll get lucky.

Also, I've personally had success with Lucas brand additives, specifically the power steering fluid stabilizer. It completely removed the "notchy" feeling I experienced in my '93 some time ago.

Good luck.

The seals in the rack may indeed be worn and reduire replacement of the rack to correct, but you need to find the source of that "clunk." Something is loose or severly worn. Check the lower ball joint, tie rod ends, inner rod ends, steering rack mounting nuts, upper strut mounts and lower pinch bolt on the steering column.

I had three loose bolts on my subframe. When I made a sharp left turn my steering would bind and would not center on its own. I put the SHO on the rack at the SHO Shop and Vadim and I tighten the loose bolts.

As long as your gonna check all the stuff that Scott suggested, check your wheel bearing(s) for play or unusual movement. I had a similar problem with my former 89 SHO. It was the driver side wheel bearing and the passenger side outer tie rod.

From the sounds of it, it is more than likey your steering rack, but check the wheel bearings just to be safe/sure. Good luck! Let us know what happens thumb
