I know there are ways to rebuild most turbochargers, but I cant find anything on the ones for the EB v6.
Does anyone know of anywhere that could rebuild the turbo?

New turbos are around $500 ea. Dunno what rebuild costs would be except to say the old turbo would have to be rebuildable to be serviced.

my big problem is the $250 core charge. I don't have a huge window to replace the turbo, and I don't really have another 250 to throw at the core charge.

Think of it as a core "reimbursement' in that the money goes to you when you return your turbo to the rebuilder. Your window is simply the time it takes to ship it, and the inspection at the facility when it arrives.
If they want a core, then they are the rebuilder.

The core charge is with a ford dealer. I know I get the money back, but that still means have $250 tied up for a while.

New turbo has a core?
I thought only reman turbos require a core.
At least that's how alternators used to work when I worked at the parts store years ago.

I can't speak of the turbo's, but my brake calipers had a core charge. I bought brand new PP calipers from the dealer and had a core charge. I suspect that Ford is trying to accumulate parts from these newer cars so that reman's are available from both Ford and aftermarket in the future.

Yes it does. I replaced my rear turbo at Ford with a new one and was charged a core charge of $250. They're wanting it back because you won't be using it anymore and they can use it as a re-manufactured unit for someone else.

Never been charged a core for a new part. I'd feel a little irritated about that myself, especially for a high value part.

All core charges irritate me a bit. But I guess the choices are to buy it with the core charge or don't buy it at all. There isn't much you can do when you need the part.

It is just a marketing issue.
If you want to experiment with the old turbo, it will cost you $250.00. In this case the turbo cost is $750.00, which to me as an uniformed consumer, does not sound too bad.
If you have no interest in tinkering with the old unit, the new turbo cost is $500.00 (after core charge refund).

I would be tempted to keep the old unit to tinker with, hoping for the possibility of rebuilding it with a kit (if possible). But if that is not possible, either physically or financially, it would be going back to get the core charge rebate.
