Reflashed the SHO with a 93 octane tune from Torrie @ Unleashed Performance. All I can say is WOW! What a difference! The car is very impressive for a big four door. Can't wait to bring it to the track.

Torrie's customer service is awesome as well. Sent me the tune after 4 pm CST and answers every friggin question almost immediately.

Does the AWD struggle to keep the power to the pavement?

Can't wait to see what kind of 1/4 times you and snaf get with your tunes.

Are you worried about warranty work being denied?

Doesn't seem to struggle at all, spins a little on the 1-2 shift. Very slight spin from a dead stop.

This is the second brand new car I've tuned. First one was a '12 5.0, put a supercharger on it. Never had an issue.

I look at it like this, If you keep a watchful eye on things and don't go overboard running the car, shouldn't have an issue. Ford can't deny you the warranty on something the tune didn't cause. So unless I burn a piston, blow a headgasket or something of that nature, I'm not too worried about it.

Magnuson-moss act protects you from dealer denying warranty just for using aftermarket parts. The burden of proof is on them to say that your aftermarket part caused the failure, that being said, most dealerships will give you a hard time for tuning the car though.

You guys are living in a dream world if you think the burden of proof is on the dealership.

In reality they can do whatever they want and you have to pony up the considerable money to fight them over it.

So the average Joe truly stands no chance not to mention the hassle of being without the car in working order.

Any aftermarket tune or CAI (not to mention other mods) can void your powertrain warranty depending on how much of a tool the service department is. Is why it is always a good idea to make friends with the service manager.

I told my service adviser (we get along pretty good) what I was planning and he thought I was approaching it sensibly. I switched to synthetic, had an in-depth inspection and switched to a full tank of 93 before the tune. I also had my alignment the day after the springs went in. He told me they are more worried about young guys blowing up motors. If the claim is not directly related to a bad tune or abuse, he would have no problem. I probably won't have it at the strip more than once just to see what it can do. I'm sure they could give me a hard time in the future but from all the info BPD posted I feel safe.

I disagree, Ford is really getting tough on warranty issues. My son-in-law has an X-Plan 2011 Ford F-150 4x4 Lariat V-8. He has taken it in 3 times for a Service light regarding his Advance Trac. When you turn the vehicle off it clears and no codes are showing up when tested. I spent about 5 minutes on the internet and found that it is the steering box. This happens when you turn the wheel all the way to the left. The dealer has now been able to replicate the issue every time one turns the vehicle all the way to the left. Even though Ford has been replacing some steering boxes for this issue, which successfully solves the coding, his dealer is getting the royal run-around. Hard to say if there is a real fault in the Advance Trac operation, or if the issue is only during extremely tight left turning like when parking.

My son-in-law is so irritated with Ford's actions, that he won't be buying a new Explorer Sport this fall, to replace his Honda Pilot.

When the claim is expensive, Ford is going to look for anything related to their already published TSB's , and the dealer can't do anything about it. However, unless there is a defective part, or you push your engine beyond what you have already done, you likely won't have an expensive claim.
