Lookin good. What's included in the front seal gasket kit? Where did u purchase your gaskets from? How many miles on the new engine? Did u contemplate on replacing the valve stem seals?

Thanks

Front seal gasket set includes the timing cover seal, oil pump to block gasket, oil pump tube gasket, oil pan seal, and pump cover. Got my gaskets from Autozone, have to check on the price if you are interested. Engine had about 110k-120k on it. Didn't pull the cams or the heads, didn't need to. :)

Racer_X beat me in his swap :snicker: :nut: Hamal I want to see some pictures!

Lots of interest in the car - I had an older gentleman turn around in my driveway tonight - about 5 minutes later he came back and was chatting with me about it! Seems he had an original '89 and was sorry when it got wrecked in an accident.

Let's clean the engine bay today.

Before. Notice the gunk by the battery tray (left-hand side), mud on the firewall blanket, dull strut towers, ugly subframe goo, and the junk at the top of the fender lips.

Fan airbox rad dirty

Wrap the electrical connections, please.

Now you get in there with the Simple Green and a scrub brush, and two hours later...

Bump!

Updates. :) Almost done. I will have to procure the correct alternator / A/C / idler belt as I've gotten two and neither is the correct part. The first was to short and too small, the second just too short.
I'm wondering if it's because the '91 Cali engine has the '95 accessories?

Hope to have her up and running tonight, it's pretty much done. :D

More pics, of course:

Clutch Alignment Tool. $2.99 at AutoZone. Not needed but helpful.

Here's it in action... and yes, the bolts are being properly Loctited.

Question: We do not know where this plug goes! Can anyone ID this, please?
What is this plug 4

What is this plug 2

Here's where it comes from on the firewall. Only plug that hasn't found a home yet.

This is Mike's gorgeous ATX-swapped-to-MTX 3.2 '93. Yes, it's black-on-black.

More (possibly the final) pics to come.

Tom, that plugs into the CELO switch.

Nice to see the swap coming to its completion almost. :)

Tonight looks good - everything is just about there.
I would like to figure out why the belts I've been getting won't fit. My best guess is that there is another small, subtle difference between the '91 crank pulley and the '95 idler / alternator / A/C compressor pullies.

RacerX- your recommendation for the chain around the manifolds worked great! I'm trying to remember if the coolant line on that motor had the swith for the CELO...I don't remember seeing one...of course, with my luck it will be sitting right there!

Tom, that motor came out of a '92, not a '91...oh, and I'm game for this evening. Did you get the length for the belt???

Small snag last night - one of the exhaust studs busted off inside the manifold. Was a PITA to get it out - but everything is done. Fluids are full, everything is torqued down, battery has juice. CELO plug found its mate. ;) I was saved from having to syphon off old gas through the nastiest tubing ever when we found there was only 1/4 of a tank in there. Oohrah. We're ready to roll.

Which is kind of nice, we should have plenty of time tonight to go down to the beach bar afterwards and have a drink or two to celebrate. Ron you should come down too - beer's on me. :thumb:

Well -

Last night, at about 11PM, after two years of sitting and waiting patiently, she came snorting back to life.

There were only a few snags, a pinched starter relay wire and a squished secondary vacuum line, but both were fixed and she starts right up, no drama, no leaks, no squeaks.

Huge up to Mike Lundeen and RJ-92 as they were absolutely invaluable getting this project off the ground. :thumb:

Still have some stuff to sort out - alternator belt, exhaust leak, brakes need bled, alignment, etc... but the SHO is back, and in business.

I have the 1995's on the stand, I can check it for you. It may be a day or so, I need to visit my lady friend before she disowns me. :)

The only thing that I am stumped on is why I cannot get an A/C belt on this thing. We took string and measured what the proper length should be, and Mike got two belts... neither fit? Odd....

So I will try and get the '91's diameter as well. I wondered if the Cali cars had a different pulley diameter of if they switched pulley sizes sometime during the engine's run? Anyone have some insight to this?

Tom, I believe the longer of the 2 belts was 45 1/4" and that was the one that almost fit...NAPA has them in longer lengths so if you tracked down say a 46" that may work fine.

Oh, and that motor is still a '92;)

91, 92, what's the difference :laugh_ti:

Whatever it is, it moved the car back to it's shady spot by the fence. First time it's moved under it's own power in many moons. I was tempted to open the secondaries up and get there in record time. :naughty:

46", gotcha. It's so nice listening to it purr again. I spent 20 minutes outside last night just looking at it.

Tom, if any of the pullies are UDP's, that would require a longer belt. My Alternator has a UDP on it, so I have to go with a belt an inch or so longer.

:oogle:

Holy crap, I never thought of that. Maybe it does have a UDP - that would explain why the belts aren't fitting.
