Well, I'm driving down a dirt road last night and couldn't see a darn thing through the rain and I could jsut feel my car hitting these horrible potholes, MI potholes, if you've driven here you know what I mean. I'd like to know if there are any HID kits for our cars and if so how good are they and how much do they cost. I mean, good lights are cheaper than a bunch of new rims because you hit the mother of all potholes.

Sylvania makes a kit with a ballast and everything. I thought it was in the $800-$900 range. I would post the link, but it's been about a year since I inquired about them. You would need to find or fabricate a different housing for the headlights though. The plastic just wouldn't hold up.

Check on ebay. I don't know what kind of bulbs the gen 2/3 have but the gen 1 have 9004 and I have seen some HID kits for them. Although I don't know if it will work in our housing (melt them?). But I'ver heard that they actually burn cooler (lower temp).

Forum member Jason Mansfield (Mans442) works at Osram / Sylvania, and is trying to put together an HID driving light kit for his cost of $300. That would be only a few sets per month available, but a huge savings.

We've discussed the project, and I gave him a sketch & offered to let him have an old Gen 2 foglight to use for development. He's having some trouble getting through to the R&D & Marketing guys, etc.

As soon as more info becomes available, it will be posted here.

Wow, $300 is within even my budget! If and when he gets them made I wan to be on the waiting list.

I believe the gen II uses 9007 bulbs.

If you're just looking for driving lights, my PIAA 1700Xs are VERY nice. Super plasma white lenses. I got them off E-bay for under $200, but retail for around $240. They have a VERY WHITE light beam to them and are extremely bright. Try them out.

If you're looking for bulbs for the headlights, then I'm sorry I can't help you out there. I just have the ricer XENON bulbs. They're nice, but nowhere near HID.

Ahh, foglights...umm, my foglights don't exactly work. Well the right one doesn't work. The car ran into a parking block and the fog and bumper cover got a bit bent out of shape. (Not my fault, it was like that when I got it) I've just been afraid to have it fixed since I've heard some horror stories about body shops.

Yeah, I was looking for headlights. I head that some place (importtrenz.com) had a decent HID conversion but was wondering if you guys knew anything more. It was on TCCA's board a while back.

JC Whitney has a kit for 800 that has the bulbs and an external power supply. You just put the bulbs in like any normal bulb change.

Ok, what he's working on is a replacement for the entire fog / driving light housing, bulb, etc. - completely replaced, ok? Th unit he has now will JUST fit in the opening in a Gen 2 lower air dam. Since it's going to run VERY hot, he's trying to test it out before opening the floodgates.

Personally, I like the idea of the HID drivers rather than headlights, because if you ever wanted to do the blackouts, you can!

Herman, that hangs out over on the Topica list, and lives in Toronto, has designed his own HID setup, with both low & high beam projectors. He's got everything up on his web site, but I can find the link. You may want to post an HID question over there and maybe you can hook up with him.

I purchased PIAA's 930 HID setup. It is pricy but the light output is better than anything I have ever seen. I got a break on the price when I bought Recaro seats at the same time.
