I got my first SES codes on my 97' Sho on my way home from my girlfriends house this morning. I pulled them with my X-Cal II as soon as I got home and found P0446 (Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit), P1260 (Fuel and Air Metering), and P1450 (Auxiliary Emission Controls). Ok, so I still don't know what the **** all of that means. Oh, I am currently running the 87 oct tune on my X-Cal II. I cleared the codes and shall await their return.

None of those codes have anything to do with the gas cap. You aren't going to get away that easy.

P0446 is an electrical fault with the canister purge or vent valve.

The rest I'd need to look up.

P1450 also points to an operational fault in the EVAP system as does the P0446.

The P1260 code says that PATS has disabled the engine. HOWEVER, all other codes are to be serviced first and the computer reset to see if this one comes back.

You will need the diagnostic procedure in the PCED to properly diagnose.

Since I have cleared the codes they have not come back. As long as they don't return I guess I won't worry about it. Thanks.

I'm still having problems with codes. Today my P0446 came back. I ran the car for a month without any tune and the code didn't come up. I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the 87oct tune. The only things that I have adjusted from the program are the shift points and the shift press. Any thoughts?

someone already said 446 is an electrical fault with your purge or vent valve... its not cause of 87 octane

I guess I should clarify. I think that my code is caused by the X-Cal II 87 oct tune not 87 oct gas. I ran the car for over a month without the X-Cal II tune and didn't get the code.

I used to get the p1450. Then I sold my Xcal. Code went away. I got my Xcal BACK and the code has returned... go figure. It must have something to do with the tune...

The Fact Your Car Ran A Month Without A Cel Is Probably A Coincedence.
The Evap System Will Not Test Unless It's Gets To A Certain Temperature Outside. I See You Live In Kansas So I Assume It's Been Butt Cold There?
I See Alot Of Evap Problems At Work When Spring Comes As It's Finally Gotten Warm Enough To Make The Test Run.
It's Probably The Vent Solenoid Itself Or Take The Vent Cap Off And See If The Filter Has A Spider Web In It, I Think Ford Had A Tsb On Some Of Their Cars For This Problem.
Used To Work On Alot Of Police Crown Vics With The Same Problem.

You're probably right. The code came back Thursday. :( Is all of this stuff located in the right rear wheel well? Anyone have pictures of what I'm looking for?

There are two electrical parts the to EVAP system on the '97-'99 SHOs. One is a vent valve in the rear at the canister. This is under the spare wheel well and has a wire going to it from the drivers side.

The other is the actual vent valve which is on the fire wall under the AC plumbing on the passenger side. Follow the large vacuum hose that comes from the surge tank by the EGR valve.

DTC 1450 is the same as 446 which is excessive vacuum in the tank.

DTC 1260 is a PATS code and if the car starts ignore it.

I have noticed also that as the CEL is triggered (for the P1450), i get a very noticeable stumble, almost as if I am tappping on the accelerator...

Been a while with this problem eh? Is it still with the 87 oct tune?

Doesn't look like it will fix itself........
