Its been some time now since I have had my tri-flows installed. I had them installed right before the convention in Seattle. My cams now have about 10,000 on them. The engine I put them in was a 3.2 liter with 20,000 original miles on it. I had the stage I shoshop cams in my 3.0 and had the idle set at 1,000 rpms, and beleive it or not still got average 24 mpg. Prior conventions I averaged 30 mpg but thats cause all conventions so far are far away form me.
I kept the Idle set at 1000 for the tri-flow cams and have seen no problems with stalling or anything else. My gas mileage has taken a toll though I get roughly 19-20 mpg and if i switch to a different chip that Kirk gave me I get about 10mpg. But what a screamer, these tri-flows are the best. On the way to Seattle this year I only had to down shift to 4th a few times. ANd there were alot more than a few mountains.
I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to write something about these cams but in one word there AWESOME. I got the second set but the first installed. I ate the track up in Seattle and can't wait till New Hampshire. Thats just right down the road for me.
Well in closing I have to say that ya a y-pipe is a good horsepower getter but these cams that Josh sells are well worth the money. ALso be sure to get the shims from Josh too. Also if those aren't enough Kirk has some and hes the best in a jam. My next step is to get headers from Matt at sho source but yours should be getting these cams from Josh he knows what he's doing.

How is the power down low?

My turbo car still spools just as quick but being a automatic it is never really in the really low revs.

yes I have these cams too. the Top end and mid range gains are awesome!. I will be getting a set of these for my daily driver eventually too, but nobody has to know its not stock. :angelnot:

Sounds good, but quite a drop in mileage going from 30 to 18-20 mpg.
I will be saving up for a set myself, but for a dd, it would not be worth it, on top of the $ of the cams, spending (at least) 50% more $ on fuel is not financially sound. That eliminates one of the few big plusses of the SHO; fast and decent mileage.

Some of that drop in mpg is going from a 3.0 to a 3.2, 7% greater displacement ~ 7% lower gas mileage.

I run on my ATX a high compression 3.3L with shoshop stage 2s. When you keep your foot out of it, I can turn almost ~30mpg. City mileage is crap, or if I want to go have fun, it's crap. But driving like a sane human, I get awesome mileage.

Fixed.

I apologize I should have been more clear. I get alright highway mileage but city sucks and track with the chip from Kirk even less than that. I had a full tank at the track in Seattle and did all the morning runs till noon break and was still over 3/4 of a tank. The first run after lunch and after the cancer drive I put the chip kirk gave me in. after the very first run I was down to half a tank. My original chip I got from Vadim doesn't open everything like the second one.

my turbo ATX pulled about 25mph going to Ohio (200 miles) even with the transmission eating itself the whole way. My city/highway is about 22mpg and if I really start running it hard... its a turbo car its fast.
