What do most SHO owners use for their transmission? The manual states Dexron II. Is Dexron III ok too? How about Mercon Trans. fl.?

My 1991 manual states that Type F is also an option. I use the Type F with a half bottle (3 oz.) the Ford Friction Modifier with the same results as the much more expensive Redline D4 ATF. It can't hurt: my car is still on the original, unopened transaxle even after pulling a 3,000 pound boat during my car's 266,000+ miles.

Yes it turned black. Although I had an anylsis done of it that said it was still good. ??? My poor clutches....

I am extremely partial to Amsoil ATX fluid. I think Redline D4 makes a good PS fluid. :)

sunny San Juan Bautista,
The red stuff is just dye. You turned the dye black. MTL used to be amber colored then they started adding dye to make it red so it matched the redline name. Since D4 is fairly new it has always had the red dye.

Kirk I agree, I didn't like D4 at all in my tranny. Third gear would grind no matter what. I replaced half of it with MTL and a bit of MT-90 and all is good again. BTW, that avatar is gross! I'd much rather look at the anime chick with big **** than having some swarthy bastard flipping me off while jacking off! Crap, I don't even look and the damn thing is sitting there flipping me off out of the corner of my eye! Bring back the big ****. Or something less painful eek! Pretty please!

You would think a company that is making hypo ATX fluid would get a stable colered dye for their product.

SHOZ123,

How do you like that cooler?

It looks like one from a Napa catalog I have. A Hayden Swirl Oil Cooler. PN 1-7505. No specs listed.

Also similar to one in my Jegs catalog. But is listed as an Oil cooler for engines up to 450HP & can flow up to 10 gal. per minute.
(1.5H x 6.5W x 18L)

Are these similar to what you are using?
Do you think they are overkill for a Trans cooler?

That is a Hayden 1269 (same as current 1240) heavy duty swirl type oil cooler. It is 6"x18.5"x1.5", 10,900-16,200 BTU per hour with a flow of 1.5-12 gallon per minute and has 1/2" fNPT fittings on it.

It is plumbed into the oil cooler water line before it goes to the oil cooler. Works very well.

N3FOL,
Although I'm not positive, I think if you read the bottle for Dexron III, it will indicate that it conforms to the same standards as Dexron II (i.e. it's the new, and improved) and is appropriate for use in applications which call for Dexron II... I put Dexron III in my mtx, and it hasn't blown up yet... thumbs_u

bottom line: read the bottle, it will tell you for sure...
