I have a 2010 Taurus SHO with 101K miles. I have 2 issues with the transmission.

1. After a cold start, the first time I put the car in drive, there is a ****. Once warmed up the car drives fine. I just did a drain and refill on the trans, PTU and RDU recently. Before that I had Seafoam trans tune in the car, to clean out the crap in the transmission.

2. There is a faint smell of transmission fluid. When raised, I noticed some trans fluid between the PTU and the transmission. Not a lot, just a little wet.

What should I do? Is my PTU starting to fail?

Most likely the common failure of the trans-PTU compression seal. PTU should be fine. How did the PTU fluid look to you when you swapped it out?

it was dark but wasnt too bad. Trans fluid was really brown. I have put some Lucas transmission fix. If that does not work, I will have the compression seal replaced.

Being a brownish color isn't really the issue with Mercon LV, it tends to turn that color very quickly. Rather, the smell and the presence of debris is of greater concern. IDK if the lucas product will stop the leak, but at best, it will be a temporary fix. Replacing the compression seal is the cure.

Thanks! I will keep an eye on the leak. Anyone know how many hours would it take for the seal replacement?

Did you toast the fluid? I toasted fresh fluid racing. Car would slam into gears when shifted from park. And the downs shifts while slowing down was dam near violent. So drained a 2 quarts out and added a fresh qt of trans and a Lucas trans fix. Still would slam into gear when shifting. Smoothed out quite a bit next day went to start pulling the trans and it was fine....

Took it to quick lanes and flushed it and it's been fine ever sense. Ford said do not add anything to it that the screens on the filter don't like it and you have to get into the case to change them.
