Occasionally, on warm start-ups I'll hear a loud, whiny noise coming from the transmission area - At first it sounds like something is being strained, then it turns into a high-pitched whine when idle calms. When I shift out of park, it goes away. Any ideas?

To me that sounds like the filter is clogged with crap and the trans is having a hard time pulling fluid thorough. How dirty was the filter and such when the flush was done, if it was bad the clutch packs may be falling apart and the tranny might be on its last legs. Does it slip at all?

The only thing I wasn't around for on this car was the tranny service - I can't say. I know there is a new filter. No slipping, but I do have a hard shift into 2nd when the engine and tranny are cold - just that first shift, then everything is smooth.

I'll have the tranny looked over by a good shop. Thank you, appreciate it.

This may seem out of left field...

Is the IAC valve original? If it is, put in a new one and I'd bet your "transmission" noise will go away.

When I had my 95 ATX, I was starting to hear that sound, except this was not overly loud. I heard the sound maybe 6-8 times, and every time I heard it at start up, I would shift from "P", to "D" and then back to "P" and the noise would go away. Same kind of noise sounded like something is whining. SHO#7 here on the forum told me it could be a pump bearing, when that bearing goes, it will destroy the transmission. I would PM him ASAP, He owns a trans shop in Ohio, and from what I hear and just the little bit I have talked to him, he knows his stuff about the SHO ATX transmission. Hope this helps :thumb:

Good suggestion. In fact my mechanic who sees my car regularly pointed to that today. I'll order one either way.

Thanks.

agreed, I would start there! pump bearing is going out.... It needs to be fix soon, or it could make a mess in there

lol. If that's the case I may as well get a rebuild. I'll keep the thread updated when I hear more.

Yes, I just went thru this save yourself 800 to 900 and take the damn thing out yourself... I'm still feeling that lol. It just depends on how bad the thing is? yes save yourself some money down the road and rebuild it
