My 2013 pp is getting up there in mileage and I have never done a tranny service and I am by no means easy on the car LOL ......anyone know how many qts it is just for the service? I know the fill is where the dipstick is under air box but I assume their is a plug to drain the fluid since it doesn't seem like you can drop the pan etc.... any help would be great thanks!

If you are doing a single drain and fill, have at least 6 quarts of new fluid on hand. Yes there is a drain plug in the trans. 3x drain and fill will change out 87% of the fluid.

Using the drain will empty the pan but you will still retain a lot of fluid in the torque converter. The couple times I've changed mine it has drained out almost exactly 5.5 quarts so I always pick up 6 like SHOdded stated.

Mercon LV. If you are only doing a single D/F, I would stick with Motorcraft brand. If you are going to do the 3x D/F, you can choose other brands from other brands that state compatibility with Mercon LV, or are certified to Mercon LV standards. bpd uses Motorcaft fluid, and changes the fluid yearly, IIRC.

I don't think either is "certified" for Mercon LV, but yes, they do have products you can use.

Amsoil Signature Fuel Efficient Recommended for vehicles requiring GM DEXRON® VI, Ford MERCON® LV and SP, Honda DW-1, Nissan Matic-S and Toyota WS fluid specifications.

Only 87%?? Not 88% or 86%

How much run time/miles durin each of the 3x d/f on the trans fluid? Thanks
Minimal needed. The important thing is to row through all the gears, sitting 30 seconds or so in each gear. This makes sure all the fluid is getting mixed before you perform the next drain/fill. You don't HAVE to actually drive in between D/Fs, but then make sure the fluid is warmed up (I'd say 150F or above so the thermostatic valve is open) before each D/F.

Anyone have a picture where the drain plug is so I don't have to remove my belly pan to go look?

Yes! I do.

In this image below, it is the bolt to the right of (& lower than) where you see the brass fitting, with wiring harness I used for my Trans Temp Gauge.

004 3

This picture is standing at the driver's side, and looking towards the passenger side if you need a point of reference.

The number 87 was always an inside joke on one of the other forums I used to frequent often.
I always assumed it was the statistical breakdown of swap. When doing a drain and refill you only replace 1/2 the fluid. So with one swap you move to a 50/50 fluid (new/used). Then a second fluid sway you remove 1/2 of that mixture and add new fluids (results in a 75/25 fluid). Then after the third refill you end up with 87.5% new fluid. That assumes you replace exactly 1/2 the fluid every time and everything gets mixed completely. But that was just my assumption on where the number came from.

Here is my 16 SHO transaxle. This picture is from front to rear. Is that small plug I have circled the drain plug? It looks like 10mm and I thought the drain would have been larger.

Looks like it, and yes, it is a small drain plug, and does take time to "empty" out.

Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

Thought I'd add my 2 cents. I recently drained and filled my trans 3 times. Each time I got almost exactly 4 qts out and added 4 qts back in. Drove about 1 week before each subsequent fluid swap. My calculations indicate I replaced 70% of the fluid.

First change 4 qts old out, 4 qts new in
Second change 4 qts out (33% now new fluid), 4 qts in.
At this point I had 6 2/3 qts new fluid out of 12 total qts.
Third change 4 qts out (55% now new fluid) 4 qts in.
At this point I had appx 8.44 qts new fluid, which is appx 70% of 12 qts.
Applying 70% to the 105,000 recommended interval leaves me thinking I would flush again in approximately 73,500 miles.

I suspect that I only got out 4 qts each time because the trans was cold, car not driven for at least 12 hours. Plus, I had the front up on 10" raceramps. Figured I'd add this to the discussion.
