support the engine, drop the subframe, drop the tranny. only slightly different from the regular Taurus.

Chiltons shows 7.3 hours, so $700-800 for the r/r
and 16.6 hours for r/r and rebuild.
You are looking at up to $1500 for parts, depending on how many of the hard parts you get replaced, in addition to the roughly $1700 for labor. Since you are doing it, do it right and replace all the worn hard parts in addition to all the soft parts.

You guys aren't gonna believe this the transmission guy said the i think it was the transfer case and differential case is bad. He said someone tried to weld the differential case and it didn't hold. ..... like what the? I said I have been chasing this noise forever and he said this is probably the sound your hearing.

I think I would find a new transmission guy pronto, since these cars do not have a transfer case...

well, a cracked differential case would have leaked out all of your transmission fluid, so that statement is also suspect... because the differential is in with all the clutch packs, planetary sets, etc. in the trans.

I think he said someone was in there before us which I know is true because the tranny isn't original. he said somebody tried to weld something but it didn't hold. he said the case was bad. but he did say transfer case which at first i didn't think anything of it but i was a lil confused i brushed it off tho. I know transfer case is not for these cars lol.

i think the guy that told me was the owner doesn't do the work because he said hold on i gotta talk to my guys to figure whats wrong and he came back and told me.

bill says re manufactured transmission assembly with torque converter. transmission case and differential assembly. He said whoever was in there before us tried to fix the differential and ended up damaging the case?

drives like a dream now. It even gets pretty amazing gas mileage.

The place is called Habby's it's in hicksville new york. I kinda had to use them as my uncle used to work their (a transmission specialist) hes retired tho sadly.

It's weird because I knew the tranny was on its way out but ive never heard of a tranny making a knocking noise.

And it's carzy because it sounds like any type of piston rattle or wrist pin. he said the tranny was probably that noise keep in mind they didn't hear that noise. so gambled getting it done.
