Well i have asked a few people about this problem, my transmission seems to take a few seconds when i put it into d to engage, it dosn't seem to slip when i hit the gas, but it takes longer than it should to hit 1-2, anyone have any problems like this? it goes into R right away, i am getting very worried about my car, and my lack of cash!!! thanks for any help guys.

I sent you specific questions in response to your PM you sent me. A better description will aid in finding the answer to your question.

ok sorry to be so vauge, ok well the fluid level is up to par, it's red and dosn't smell burnt. the car shifts 1-2 fine when i am just doing normal driving, but when i get onto it, about half+ throttle it seems to rev to high before finally going into second gear. as well as when it goes back into 1st gear from slow down it sometimes seems like it doesn't fully engage and when accelerated it seems to drop/slide back into 1st, a little to hard. almost like when i put it into D the hesitation to drop into gear. i hope this helps you with helping me, i apreciate your time. thanks.

When you say it revs during the shift you mean... Driving along, about to make the 1-2 shift. You can feel it start to make the shift, RPM's go higher, and then settle only once second gear is engaged? Sound like that?

From a stop light the transmission is sort of in a neutral state and then engages firmly and you start to move forward. Correct?

I am going to assume that I am correct on both accounts. The second one for sure. That is a pressure problem. An internal pressure problem. I am sorry to report that if that is the case, things are not good for your transmission. You have impending doom.

I've had the same problems for 2 years now in my 95 ATX. It's not gotten better or worse. If money is tight, and you can't do anything about getting it fixed - drive it carefully. From a stop, I don't bring the rpms over 3,000, I don't gas it hard going around corners. the only thing i can tell that the trany really doesn't like is quick stop and go driving. if i'm on the gas, need to brake quickly, and then need to get back on the gas, i'll get some rpm spin up before the tranny shifts from 1 - 2, resulting in a harsh clunk.

Don't race it around, treat it like it's going to break tomorrow, and you'll get some more life out of it.

I dunno what its doin but i had a 95 SLO and it did the same thign if u held your foot on the gas at a decent acc it would rev up and kick into second i was find because i babyed it and when i herd it start to shift i lift off the gas and it went in smooth but my mom drove it sometimes and she just couldnt grasp the concept of letting off the gas and then one day 170k miles bam she killed it and it lost everygear except first so if you dont have the money id say go easy and let off the gas between that shift.
