Hello,
1990 SHO, 95K, is giving me problems and making me frustrated. All I ask here is for opinions and diagnoses. Here goes....Firstly, (this does not bother me but could help with diagnosis)...clicking noise coming from clutch area, but goes away when light pressure is applied. When gas is given, clicking/rattling progressively speeds up with engine speed. Now, this is what is so frustrating...Shifting is very very very stiff. Sometimes it even grinds. Reverse always grinds badly. Downshifting never results in a grind- only on the upshifts. Also, at idle, just sitting when parked, shifting through the gears is near impossible. Clutch grabs fine and the auto adjust stated in the manual does not fix things much. Questions...can a tranny flush and fill remedy anything? By the way, tranny fluid is full to the fill plug. Will a clutch job fix these problems, or is it synchros(please no)? What should I do?...Is there ANYTHING I can check before dropping hundreds of dollars into the car? Please reply because just driving the car makes me really mad as a result of the shifting. I want to ask here because of the experience present. Shops seem to MISdiagnose SHOs often.
Thank you for your time.

Been there, done that with the '90, and the '95 with the original clutch is on the way out.

You need a clutch job. You're hearing the rattling noise of a throwout bearing that has eaten into the pressure plate fingers. Shifting is hard because the clutch is not releasing fully.

My guess would be throwout bearing (as stated above, props thumbs_u ) and bad synchros, especially if it's not grinding on the downshift. Good luck man.

Definitely a clutch problem. Have that fixed and your problems just may disappear. Well, some of them, anyway!

Also, I don't think there's any reason to assume your synchros are bad already. Only 95k miles? Just a young pup! Unless you (or somebody else) has been especially ******* the tranny (for example, one-wheel burnouts?) the tranny should hold up for quite some time.

I do recommend you drain and fill with some Redline (or equivalent).

Good luck.

As stated above. TOB has eatin' up the fingers on the PP pretty good, shaft is probably gummed up, clutch not fully releasing (thus difficult shifting). Just a typical wear item for a SHO wink

Call up SHO NUT, install a new clutch, put in a drain plug and fresh fluid, go enjoy some smooth shifts...
