Hoping somekne on the forum will have some thoughts on this.

2015 SHO P/P, just over 10k. When coasting down a hill, usually a pretty fair grade, the trans will downshift a gear. Example: county road, stop sign at top of hill. Normal stop, normal accelleration down hill. Car will uphift to 4th, then while coasting, will downshift to 3rd. Not in sport mode. Manual upshift with paddles, car will then hold that gear. The downshift seems to happen on an indicated speed of 40mph roughly.

Ford dealer checked it last week, the dreaded "cannot duplicate".

This has been happening for quite a while, waited for the 10k service to have it looked at.

Ideas?

Thx.

My 2013 did this once in a while, but it seemed to do it when braking. Not many hills around here (Long Island) that I can coast long enough to try it. And not in Sport Mode either. Surprised me at the time. Kind of like the "tow/haul" mode in the Superduty trucks.

Not sure about the 2016 yet - it's only got 2000 miles on it so far.

OP, this is normal. The car is programmed to engine brake, as it is assuming you don't want it to accelerate down the hill with your foot off the gas. I drive highway hills everyday, and mine does the same thing -- much more aggressively with the cruise on (trying to hold the cruise set speed).

Thanks John. I suspected that might be the cause. I had noticed the cruise control also.
