I have a '90 MTX SHO and whenever I am below 2000rpm there is a wierd whirring sound kinda like a SSSHHHHHH...it's in every gear but much more noticable in first, and it stops right after 2000rpm. It's not very loud and can only be heard when everything is off. If anyone knows what this is, I'd be quite happy to hear. shrug

Open the hood and check for vacuum leaks and noisy idler pulley bearings. Noises are very tough to hear in text.

Does it sound like some marbles rolling around in your tranny? If so, that is called gear roll over. It is perfectly normal, I even have a letter from Ford addressing this. It just says it is a larger gear trying to roll over a smaller gear.
