I have a 92 SHO 5-speed, and i have been having some transmission or clutch problems. I'm not much of a car person, motorcylces are my first love, but i do adore my SHO. However, i am generally clueless when it comes to diagnosing and fixing problems. The clutch feels fine, but the shifter is really tight, and it's almost impossible to shift into first gear. I hadn't driven the car for almost 2 months because i was away, and now its almost impossbile. Some friends have told me that i need a new clutch, others have said it could be as simple as manual transmission fluid. I want to try filling up the fluid before i take it to a mechanic, but i don't know where the resevior is. If somebody could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem. It was really hard to get into first(almost impossible) But the difference was my clutch pedal would viberate/make noise when depressed. Turned out to be a toasted throw out bearing. I think your fluid may just be low, but it could be the end for your clutch. How many miles on the car?
Definitly fill up the tranny with fluid before taking to a mechanic.

The resovior fill plug is facing the radiator. Looking from underneath the car, find where the clutch connects to the engine. Then look up about 4 in. The fill plug is located about half way up the clutch. I think* it takes a 3/8 head. (use a 3/8 6" extension). Make sure the car is level. First reach your pinky finger into the fill hole, to measure how full it is. It should be right up to the hole itself. Then fill (hard part) until the oil level is brought up to the hole.

good luck

Does the shifter only feel tight to move when the car is running or does it do it all the time? If so it could be a linkage problem.
Good luck.
