Ok i blew my transmission in my 92 MTX and i got a new one from a 89. now i believe the 92 is a rod shifter but the 89 is cable right. there wont be a problem with that right the shop can still keep and rod shift right

From what I'm looking at, it should. At least I hope it does, because I'm doing the same as you but vise versa.

There is no difference in the transmissions (rod vs cable shifter). All the MTX trannys are identical from the factory for 89-95 as far as this is concerned.

To further elaborate on Steve's response, you'll have to remove the cable shifter bracket from the tranny in order to use it with a rod shifter. No biggie, just a few bolts.
