I noticed my drivers side trans seal has a slow leak. The seal must have been damaged when the prevoius owner replaced the half shaft on that side. The seal does not look like the MTX style seal though...

Is it easy to R&R the seal, asuming I remove the half shaft? It almost looks like the seal gets installed from the inside while the tranny is apart?

Thanks! If I remove the drivers side shaft & seal, will I loose much tranny fluid? Also, how does the drive shaft release from the tranny? Just pry on it?

Yes, you will lose fluid. Yes, it is enough to make a mess. Yes, the axle just pulls out. It will take some force. There is a little clip on the inside that helps it snap into the differential.

Just had the shop replace this about a month ago. Was pretty cheap as far as repairs go, so it must not be too difficult :)

Hey, just make sure to fully insert the axle into the trans, or you will need a new axle very soon too. You can get the seal puller from sears or autozone for about $10. Be careful when removing the seal not to scratch the transmission case or it will leak.
