I am going to use a SHO trans cooler on my 4x4. When pulling the cooler I noted some kind of a weird looking T fitting on one of the lines just behind the radiator. It was an aluminum block with 3 aluminum lines connected to it. It was cold late and dark, so I had to get out of there, but now I am wondering if I was looking at a bypass thermostat for the trans cooler.

BTW if any of you guys are in Chicago I know of 3 Gen I SHO's in self service boneyards

You are correct. I promptly removed mine from the car when I took possesion of it. Those bypass valves are a restriction and can also become stuck.

Are you guys not really happy with those coolers?? The reason I grabbed it was because I thought it was quite large, and had a lot of surface area. That long and narrow design fit my needs also. Are there any flow issues or anything else not so great about it? I was thinking about going back for that thermostat, but it sounds like that isn't a good idea either
Thanks for the help

Is it easy to remove? Do I have to add anything else in its place when I remove it? I am definately going to look into this. Thanks....

It's fairly simple to do, you just take out the junction block and run new 3/8 hose. Once you look at it and see how the hoses are routed you'll figure it out in no time.

Why is this tranny cooler priced at $750 from the dealer? Is our tranny cooler setup SHO Specific?
