Hello everyone. when it comes to our sho's accumulator spring for the 1-2 shift it states that we need a Purple colored one for the 95-96 and a plain-colored one for the 97-01 Tauruses. Ford officially stated that the spring for the 97 sho works on 01 Tauruses.

these are hard to come by and ford says the wrong spring can cause a hard shift.
What do we do in a case where we absolutely can't get this spring?

Ford also states that clutch spacing and wrong separator plate can cause hard shifting.
I wonder how important each of these 3 is for harsh shifting. If for instance, I had the incorrect spring but the correct separator plate, etc.

If I cannot get this spring can one be modified or some other workaround?
Interestingly enough this pDF from ford that I have doesn't say anything about needing a specific valve body casting. Only about valve body wear.

If anyone has any info would be greatly appreciated.
