I have everyhting hooked up (I think). The cable is inserted and tightened down. The electrical connection is plugged in. Is there a secret here or possible something I need to replace?

Double check that all parts of the speedo cable are connected. There's a connection at the tranny and just above it. Make sure both are attached. And if the speed cable became unattached behind the instrument cluster (no idea why it would :) ) you wouldn't have the odometer working either. You did a direct swap of trannies? There might be an internal problem with the speedo body gear... or the differential might even be missing the speedo ring gear.

It was part of a motor swap. It is Quaifed and the odo doesn't work either. I only detached it from the tranny. Can the spedo body gear be swapped easy without opening the case or removing the tranny?

As far as I can tell everything is hooked up right. Any ideas?

Mike, the green gear was installed on the differential. How do I know? Because I put it there. :)

There are several things that run the speedo. Internally you have the speedo gear on the diff and the final driven gear both of which are in your tranny. The final driven gear can be removed from the tranny if need be. The top of the final driven gear sticks out of the tranny housing and has a metal threaded area where the VSS assembly attaches. The center of that is squared and that is where the VSS probe goes. Make sure you have that seated properly on the tranny.

Out the top of the VSS assembly is where you attache the speedo cable. Again, it's a probe that goes into the center of the VSS and there's a clip that holds the cable in place in the VSS assembly. If it is not seated properly you can get either a no speedo or jerky speedo situation as it's mechanical in nature. So check your connections and be sure that you have everything seated properly.

Thanx Beth :thumb: I would venture to guess it might be a fitment issue. I recal my hand being in some cramped quarters and having trouble finding the hole. I'll start there.

BTW the tranny is awesome! Who can't love the quaife and a refreshed box. Shifts feel good, clean and smooth. Been dirving it pretty easy yet. Not ready to beat on it, I'd rather make sure everything is nice and broken in first. But I am very pleased with it. :D

Wow, sounds like you have more issues than just your tranny.

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Actually There is alot of slack on the wire leading to the firewall. I'm pretty sure it pulled out of the back of the dash.
