tranny problems for 1992 mtx

hey i JUST bought a 1992 MTX and i love it....i kinda did burneys and what not when i got it and the tranny went out...
it was a rod shift......but now the only one i could find was a cable shift and my friend is putting it in RIGHT now....is this bad....and i wanna race this car at "high school days" on the track....is that wise...the tranny is outta a 91 mtx..i just wanna know how much these can take thanks

They are the same tranny. The brackets on the tranny for the cables just need to be removed. Keep the rod shift setup. If you wanna race the car often, you really would need to get a Quaife differential. The stock one is the weak point on the tranny and burn outs **** it quick. Stock clutch is good for the sreet but if your gonna race it often, you need to get a better clutch. You can check www.spmotorsports.com and www.shonutperformance.com for your clutch choices.

Others here that actually do race these cars will be able to give you a much better heads up on the mods needed for the track.
