i think this goes in this forum....anywho!

well yesterday for some stupid reason, i decided to have fun in my car and red line it before shifting to 2nd, well, when i went to go to second, i got off the gas, hit the clutch, and then pulled it back to 2nd....it didnt go in to 2nd, just made a horrible grinding noise, so i took it out, let the clutch out, pushed it back in, and tried again, same thing....then i stopped, and i could barely get it into first, and in neutral, it wouldn't go between the gears. then when i got it on the road i couldnt shift it from 2nd to 3rd most of the time. but that was yesterday, now i can shift through the gears, it's still a little stiff, and it's hard to get it from 1st to reverse. yeah, i'm an idiot.... :bonk:

so, does anyone have an idea to what i did to it? but it is gettin better, so hopefully, it's resettin itself....if i'm lucky.

This problem will most likely not fix itself. I just went through this. You either have a bad TOB or broke a strap/rivit on the pressure plate. By driving it, you are wearing parts in the transmission. When it grinds or shifts but binds up. That are parts not meshing the way they should inside that transmission. Just fix it.

tranny shifts fine, we think the problem is the shifter, the spring doesnt guide it from 2nd to 3rd anymore, and that's y i was havin trouble goin from 2nd to 3rd when it first happened. does that sound logical?

and it shouldnt need a new clutch, it got a new one when i got the engine replaced when i first bought it

Sure it might have been new when you bought it, but that doesn't mean it is still good now.

Sounds like you busted it.

My new Ford pressure plate went out in 11k. It was a new item too. Not a reman. It can happen. That is why they make upgraded versions.

I just noted that you are where I am. Come stop by some time. I will help you check it. I run Danco Transmission on route 4.

I've been meaning to reply to this thread, but "Yes" it can fix itself if the clutch cable only needs adjustment. I forgot that I always ran into this problem when shifting at high rpms. My clutch pedal would get heavy and cause shifting problems. All I had to do was pull up on the pedal and it clicked back in place. Try readjusting your clutch cable by pulling up on the clutch pedal.

A similar thing happened to me shortly before my diff-pin snapped and tore a hole in my transaxle (It got very hard to get it to go into 1st gear and reverse would grind sometimes even after putting it in another gear and waiting 3-5 seconds after pushing the clutch in) ...Just a possibility, however it's more likely to be the clutch

Willing to bet it was the cable, otherwise your problems would not have went away.
