ok, i recently purchased a 93' ATX for cheap. My full intentions were to swap the motors in my 94' or 89'. well the ole lady tells me that she would like to have the atx so she dont have to shift anymore.

when i bought the car the owners said it sounded like a bike chain and just sounded bad. one day while driving it just quit on them.

so to get to the problems.. motor sounds great, pull it into drive and it pulls the motor down like it should, but it wont do anything, you can rev it to the moon but no go, no noise, nothing.

is there a chain that drives the tranny, i am clueless on the ATX, i took of the tranny cover just to look, of course cat get into the tranny this way, i know this now but not then.

can anyone tell me anything, i will work on it myself, no worries have all of the tools. just no idea what it could be.. does anyone have any suggestions?????

the ATX tranny in the SHO is not very strong. The '93 ATX happens to be the worst of them all.

My guess if that tranny is done for.

I sent you a message indicating that there is a chain that drives the tranny from the drive shaft out of the engine. It is essential for the tranny to opperate correctly. Did you get the message and the image that I sent you???

As mentioned, there is a chain inside the tranny, but it will basically require a rebuild to get to it. Bottom line is the tranny is shot. Start shopping your local junkyards for a used tranny, or getting quotes for a rebuild.

sounds :thumb: like the low drum split free from its sun gear, it cheaper in the long run to update and rebuild, than to just keep on swaping trannys and hoping for a go one.I m from the albvany new york area and have been rebuilding ax4s trannys for netviper.

Yeah Silas I meant to tell you about Kevin (95SHO32) he's a great ATX rebuilder. I had him rebuild an AX4S for someone I knew who's 2000 Windstar **** the bed. He rebuilt it like a SHO tranny, **** upgrades and the whole 9 yards. After I put the tranny back in the windstar I could make it chirp the 1-2 shift real nice, in a freaking minivan!!!! 3.8L motor though

I'd have to take a guess here but his rebuilds are on FPS level of quality, for alot less.

Have you ever rebuilt a Ford/Mazda AXOD series tranny yourself? If not, it's not something for the average DIY'er. There are hundreds of parts, and it requires about $1000 just in special tools, never mind endplay gauges, etc.

Try getting in touch with some of the SHOklahoma people for recommendations on a repuatable tranny shop to rebuild it for you.

Even with a good selection of coathangers and 1x2's, to do it PROPERLY, without having to take it apart half a dozen times, the tools help it get done right, the first time.

I dunno, people who care about their cars maybe? Or people who don't want to have to go back in and re-do clutch jobs multiple times to get it right?

I have some contacts for parts, last I checked for a stock rebuild it was something like 200.00 for parts, I have a rebuild video I just bought, I would take a few bucks for a copy to help in the 50.00 I spent on it. If you want I can get all the info together, the endplay is really the only thing in the video I saw that needed that much attention, there are a couple of depth gauge readings, and you need a good multi-meter. but it is pretty straight foward, get a trans-go shift kit also. good luck,
Nathan

Hi, Don't for get to NOT I say NOT change the spring in the servo cover you can put the metal wire ring in later if the shift isn't what you like "harder" with the wire ring in. It compress the spring more and increases apply speed and pressure,Also get the **** lines most tranny shops will have them in stock even used is fine they are just **** tube. this just what I'd do at the least.
