Is this something that your somewhat above average mechanic can handle in the driveway? I was told in another thread that my shit needs changed, so do I need to spend an arm and a leg to get this done or can I just drop the pan and change it myself?

Also, how hard is it to install a shift kit? Is this another one of those intimidating yet simple practices? Paul...enlighten me, you Great God of the Gen III.

I dunno about fwd but on my c6 you just drop and pan change some springs and or the valve body depending on the kit you got, tighten the bands per the instructions for the specific trans, and button it back up. Just be prepared for trans fluid to be everywhere. What I found works is a garbage bag in a garbage can lid, that should catch most of it:thumb:

Fluid's whats going to cost the most, and lots of it. Filter is only other thing you need. Gasket is reuseable if it is in good condition.

I used Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in my car. Just about due for another flush and refill.

Shift kit requires removal of the valve body, which can be done in the car, IIRC, but it is very difficult. Silvapain has a link to how to remove it. It's a great read.
