Tranny Fluid?

I'm 99% sure that 98 and up takes Mercon V fluid but the manual says differently. So to make sure I thought I would ask:

Does the 98 SHO tranny take Mercon V or regular Mercon III? shrug

Yes Mercon V. I like Amsoil.

Is there a reason why the 96 & 7 don't use the synthetic? From everything else I've heard, there are not other differences.... Would it be a problem to run the MerconV in a 96?

There must be some reason. Clutch material maybe? If you want a synthetic ATX there are several out there that will cover both Mercon III and V specs.
