Tranny Fluid?????in MTX

I was Pulling out the engine on an 89 SHO that I bought for 300 bucks so i could put a new engine in. To make a long story short i had to grind through the half shaft that comes out of the tranny because the bolts on the mounting bracket were rusted solid. When I went to replace the half shaft, transmission fluid came out all over and it surprised me because this is a MTX. The guy said he took good care of it but as I have gotten into taking it apart I have realized he didnt at all and im just wondering if its supposed to have tranny fluid as opposed to grease? I thought all 5 speeds had grease? any info??

Yeah, it's supposed to have ATF fluid inside. All SHO MTX's use it.

Maybe it is just me but I am confused. You ground through the half shaft because the bolts were rusted? Why not just grind off the head of the bolts? Are you asking about grease or fluid in the transmission or in the halfshafts? I was under the impression that all transmissions used either atf or gear oil. I'm not trying to be a **** or anything, just a little confused.
