Does anyone know how that valve for tranny cooler works. Its the one that is right behind the radiator on my car. I noticed that there is like a set screw on the bottom. My car takes a long time to go into TCC lockup. I think the valve on my car is stuck. I know it controls the flow to the big cooler up front. I was just wondering if there is a way to test it and calibrate it? Should have just got a MTX I guess. Anyone know of any good blue MTX SHO's for sale?

I took mine out because I always wanted fluid to be moving through the cooler. From what I observed the screw at the bottom is simply a screw at the bottom. It is basically a thermostat, if the fluid is too cold it sends it back to the tranny without going through the radiator and the cooler. Then I assume when it reaches a certain temp it opens, yet thermostats get stuck closed so I assume this could to. I personally didn't like it their at all so I simply removed it. You just need to observe the way the hoses are rounted, take it out, buy a piece to go where it was, and take the "T" piece out on the other end of the return hose and replace it with a straight connecting piece and you are done. Hope this is what you were looking for.

P.S. I did notice my TC locked up quicker after I removed this. That could be that the constant flow through the radiator also heats up the fluid quicker.

Alot depends on your climate in the area that you live in too...I made my tranny completely air cooled but noticed that on colder days last winter, she would stay stuck in 1st gear for quite some time waiting for the tranny fluid to warm up. Living in SD, (my grandparents live in Rapid City) I know that you have brutal winters up there, so I don't think making your tranny coolant system all air cooled would be an option. If you have concerns about keeping your fluid cooler, just add a Hayden 26 cooler to the water cooled lines and let them work together. Good luck.
