So tomorrow my SHO will be getting towed to AAMCO to have a whole new clutch kit put on along with a few other things. Do most service shops drop the subframe on the SHO to replace the clutch? If so, I'm considering having them open the case on my tranny and inspecting to see if everything looks good in there. I was also considering having the tranny "built" a little to help handle future mods to the engine. What all can be done to build the tranny a little?? And would they have to order any parts to do this? I do want to start stacking up $$, so I'd rather this be something that they wouldn't have to order any parts for... maybe a mod that's I guess "universal" or something. I'm not going to be boosting my motor or anything in the future, so I just want a little more reliability with the tranny so I can be a little ******* it once in a while. I don't have $$ for the Quaife unfortunately though... that would be a GREAT mod. Any suggestions on building the tranny anyone?

Thanks,
Andrew

The big thing would be to install a Quaife ATB differential, do a quick search for Quaife for a list of the advantages of the unit. The stock diff the the major weak point in the whole drivetrain. The Quaife is not cheap though, its around $1200 just for the unit. At the very least you want them to complete inspect the pinion pins in the stock differential and the roll pins that hold them in. Those are the parts that fail and make the diff go BOOM! You will also want them to check the normal stuff: blockings rings, synchros, bearings, seals, etc. The stock gears are good for around 300 HP. So unless your going to go with forced induction or use nitrous ALL the time you could spend you cash better elsewhere. If you want other upgrades you could have your gears cryro treat to make them a bit stronger or you could fork over the $6000 for the new stronger gear set.

Is there a particular reason you are using AAMCO? The big chain shops tend to hire right out of school kids or hacks that can't make it elsewhere. Maybe you have good mechanics at that particular place. Maybe not.

I would just get the clutch done there. If you want the tranny cracked open, I would suggest bringing it to someone who specializes in that sort of thing. Someone other than Mc Tranny shop.
