Torque Converter Problems

Just blew my torque converter at 58,000 miles in my 98 Silver Frost, Any one else had this happen at such a low mileage?

Yes indeed. Ford has seen fit to only actually braze one in four fins inside the TC. The rest are just a crimp fit. If you really want to get it fixed right this is what I did.

Call 1-800-443-2226 and speak to RAY only (dacco)
He knows what you have and will handle the paper work and Credit Card billing.

He will give you the R & R Shipping instructions.

Cost me a few to ship it there but it should solve the problem permanently.

Same Problem on my first tranny. The bushing fails prematurely and causes the fins to wobble off. Yay!

Is this an aftermarket TC or a beefed up Ford one?

Hey guys,

What were the symptoms when this happened? A friend of mine (grn '97) is having some weird tranny maladies. Stalls sometimes when putting the car in drive, but not low1, low2, or reverse. Weird bucking while slowing to a stop. Car runs perfect in Park. Rpms oscillate while in Drive.

Are any of these symptoms common with yours? He taking it an SHO friendly dealer tomorrow. I have no idea.

Mine went into nuetral while driving down the road a 60 mph. Wasn't the same ever after that.

Hmmm.....I think that sounds like my problem, would a blown TC make a wierd sound from the housing where the TC is, if thats the case than I have a perfectly fine tranny with 10k on it, anyone wanna buy it...Hey mikie im picking up pretty much the whole front end of a 94 MTX on saturday, so my buddies and I are goin to try and get the ATX to MTX done in two weeks, im pulling the motor, trans, and subframe off on sunday... Ill have some extra ATX and MTX parts laying around so let me know if anyone is looking for a part, I might have it.
