OK I don't know much about these cars as far as drivetrain so I gotta ask.... what are the signs that the torque converter is beginning to fail?...
For me, if I was traveling around 50 mph in 6th then gave it enough go pedal to kick down a gear the rpm’s would bounce until it upshifted again.

Occasionally when my car is really cold, it seems to hold longer in a gear as I am getting on the highway. Didn't know if it was a sign or not.

I didn't experience that in mine.

Mine felt like the engine was missing under part throttle while at cruising speeds (50MPH and higher) in which the vehicle shook (not violently) and the RPMs would bounce up/down about 150 RPMs. These symptoms all disappeared under wide-open throttle and acted completely normal. I initially thought it was a bad batch of fuel or a knock sensor but my scans and new tanks of fuel didn't show anything leading to those diagnoses.

My car has done this twice. I had to upshift with paddles.

Then I would say your converter isn’t bad, the lockup just isn’t engaging properly. I had very similar symptoms with my F150; and the stealership wanted to sell me a TC. I had a trans shop flush the transmission and that fixed it. 100k miles later I haven’t had another problem. I know of one or two members who had the same situation and success with their SHO. So if you haven’t tried that yet I would definitely say it’s worth a shot.

Thats good advice... for the next person. My trans was already pulled, rebuilt, and should be back in this evening. The timing was right for the situation as the builder identified several items were on their way out and the rebuild saved me from losing the trans completely and being stranded somewhere.

I will try that... helps that I work next door to a transmission shop.

I have noticed that and have been paying attention to my trans temp. 36 mile trip in 0-10°F ambient down a frigid I94 and the trans was only 125° when I arrived, far below normal operating temp. Would definitely explain slow shifts. I’m chalking it up to a winter thing.

There is a cold temp - warmup shift schedule

Now that’s interesting. Do you have any idea what the parameters are?
There is a temperature at which it switches from warmup schedule to the base shift schedule.
