Ok,
My buddy is going to school to be a mechanic. He needs to order his tools. He has looked at all the info that he has gotten from the school and he is trying to decide between Snap On and Mac. What do you guys think? Prices are close. He gets 50% off for being a student and whatnot. Can you guys help him out?

My guys, and myself use Snap-On at the shop. I use Snap-On at home also. I never really liked Mac because alot of their tools are made elsewhere and Mac puts their name on it. And if he gets 50% off, we may need to talk. I am about to update software at the shop.

Check with Mac for sure but when I got me deal Mac was 55% off and I could set up what ever set I wanted. Snap On was 50% and they would only let us buy the packages they had setup. I would have gone with Snap On if I could have setup my own package. I have lived all over the US and there is always a Snap On Dealer but Mac is hit or miss. Good luck

go with snap-on and they should let you pick the sets you want. I hate mac, I have a hood prop that has been broke for years and when I finally found a dealer they would not exchange it but with snap-on they are always willing to repair or replace my tools if something goes wrong. just my two cents :D

I seldom need to buy tools these days, having been stocking up for 40 years, but the ones that are still here are almost all either Snap On or Craftsman, many of them approaching that kind of age. I think that says something.

How does that work, getting tools, I am a new automotive student at my college, just got into the program, is there something I have to do? Or is there something I have to fill out to be able to take advantage of that offer? Let me know!!

Nothing special to know. If you went to orientation they should have given' you all the info you need there.

Yup what he siad, I'm in an auto program as well and I get 50% off snap-on tools, but that's only after I graduate. I personaly think they're the best. But for now I'm still using good ole craftsman.

Both have a lifetime warranty on hand tools. IIRC both have one year on all air tools.

yeah, that's what got me wondering about price. i tried to pick up the engine and tranny set but lost out b/c i fell asleep:cry: if i can get new sets for about what they are going for on e-bay.... the last tranny set went for about $115 and the engine kit went for about $60. i tried bidding on the other engine kit but i kept getting auto-outbid up to $70 and i decided i would try to find out what they cost b4 i kept bidding.
