TOB plastic pin

I should have installed the TOB after refreshing the transmission. After finishing, I noticed that the TOB was off the sleeve/quill and hanging by the plastic pin. The pin is broken near the head with just a little bit left hanging on.

How important is this pin? Is it only necessary for installation? As far as the old pin, well there was no old pin found during disassembly.

The dealership doesn't stock them and will only order them in bags of ten @ $1.26 per pin.

The pin is very important for proper clutch engagement. If it's not there the TOB can hang up on the sleeve and not disengage. Josh doesn't sell the pin seperate from the TOB's themself but you never know, he's a VERY helpful SHO guy! If not buy the 10 from Ford and keep them handy for the next 10 clutch jobs

The pin is not a structural piece and is used primarily to ensure that the TOB is correctly positioned during installation and fiting of the transaxle to the engine. The pressure plate fingers ensure the TOB is pushed back as the clutch pedal is released. The TOB is designed to be in constant contact with the pressure plate and the cable tension set by the ratchet on the pedal ensures that. I, however, would not feel comfortable going through all the effort to install the transaxle without a pin in place.
