What is the widest tire I can reasonably fit on a 16X7 in rim? Will 245s fit? 235?

I have 225 Yokes on now and they have a little bit of bulge.

If im not mistaken if you are running slicers, which are 215's stock ... 225's are the widest that you can go before you start to have rubbing issues. You want to make sure that you don't bulge out much farther due to clearance.

I havn't searched shotimes in a while - but that would be the first place I would look. www.shotimes.com

I know of a couple of people that have used spacers on their rims to allow them to add wider tires, but I don't reccomend it IMHO.

Hope this helps

When I bought the car it had American Racing Estrellas on it which I belive are 16x7. (Might be x7.5) and the car currently has yokohama 225/60 zr 16s. I have heard of people running 235s and 245s but I don't know what rim size & offset is required.

I think you'll find that a 225 width tire will be the most appropriate. There's a large assortment of quality tire in both 225/55/16 and 255/50/16. The 55 series is closest to stock and the 50 series will be a bit shorter.

Im running Toyo Proxies 225/55/r16z on stock gen 3 rims and I have rubbing issues on in the front wheel wells, but that might be attributed to my car being lowered. Also, if you go too wide on your tires without the appropriate rims for that size you will acutally HURT your performance in respects to steering.

I honestly wouldn't go much larger than what you have now, K-dawg is right - the biggest challenge you have now is finding a tire that you like. Might I suggest www.tirerack.com for tire selection.

Steve, are you planning on doing any mods in the near future?

Arn't slicers 6.5" wide? Even if they are 7", 225's are about the limit. Any wider and the sidewalls will bulge too much which hurts handling.

tirerack.com has specs on acceptable wheel width for a given tire size. Choose a 225/55-16 tire and look at the specifications for it. I chose a Dunlop SP Sport 9000 and it nominally mounts on a 6.5" wheel but the acceptable range is 6"-8"". Generally the shorter the sidewall height, the smaller the acceptable range.

On a Gen I, 235mm is about as wide as you can get without clearance issues. Keep in mind also, that the bigger the tire, the heavier is gets and that affects the unspring weight of the car, which in turn affects your performance.

Just for the record, the GEN I slicers are 6 inches wide, the GEN II slicers are 6.5 inches, as are the GEN III five spokes. All have a 42mm offset.

Good luck with your search.

Wow, I think if we had a SHO Trivia Quiz, most of the people here would fail.

Slicers are 6" wide.
Basketweaves are 6" wide.
Gen III SHO rims are 6.5" wide.

Dan H here has 16x7" American Racing rims, not Slicers.
