I need new tires pretty badly since i have belts showing on one of the rears. For the cost(since i still have interior work and a battery needed)i`m going with the Kumho`s from Tirerack. My question is should i stick with the stock size,or go a bit wider with the 225/60/16 for an extra $3 per tire.I know it`s only 3 bucks, but is it noticable enough to even bother?

225-60-16's are too tall of a tire for the SHO IMO. We have em on the GS and they are big. I don't think they're any wider. I liked 225-50-16's when I had my slicers.

Use this:

Edit: Make sure you view them from the side and the end. Taller, not any wider.

Yeah,i`d like to go lower, but the $ just won`t allow for now.I`ve always had the 225/60/16`s on there and it didn`t bother me at all.I just don`t know if it`s worth $12 for the 215/225 difference.

How about 225-55-16's? If you do go with 225-60-16, I found some at Discount Tires(tires.com) for $236 shipped. They were the Yokahama Avid Touring.(GS needs tires)

The 225/55/16 Kuhmo works great, and dosn't bulge too bad on the slicer and the diamtere is very close to the 215/60.

Jeremy,

The 225/60-16 tires are about 5% too tall and will cause the speedo to read under the actual speed by about 3 mph at 60 mph. You will also effectively lengthen the final drive ratio by that same 5%. Better gas mileage, but slower acceleration. I had a set of 225/60-16 Dunlop D40M2 tires and would experience rubbing in the fender splash shield when the suspension compressed. The tires also made the car look like I was trying to turn it into an off-roader.

The 225/55-16 size is much closer to the stock diameter.

just installed 225 55 16's on my 94, they were only a couple of bucks more than the 60's. The car had 215 60's on it before. The tires are slightly wider but keep the ride height about the same. Go for the 55's you won't be disappointed.

It would probably reduce the speed you could reach in fifth gear since the engine is not able to get to the horsepower peak with the stock tire size. If you formerly topped out in fourth, there is a chance you could get another mph or two, but you would also lose transient sharpness in the steering due to the taller sidewalls. The cars that use the 225/60-16 size are either luxury cars (Lexus LS 400/430) or family cars (Pontiac Bonneville).

I just put Yokohama AVSdb 225-60-16 on my '93, seem fine, no rubbing, super ride, excellent cornering, very quiet, speed rated, very good in wet, fill wheel wells nicely.

Jeremy, I had the 225-60-16's on my 91 when I bought it and they rubbed on the fender skirt in the front, and one of them rubbed on the outside fendler lip in the rear, so I shaved them. I have 225-55-16s on there now with no rubbing at all. Check out the Pirelli's also, the p8000 drago is cheap as well as the p6000 Sport Veloce(which I have)
