Always check tire pressure cold. Each different kind of tire out there will want different pressures. Check the side of the tire for the Max load @ what PSI. You don't need to have max psi but you can keep an eye on the way it wares and the PSI you are running.

Is the tire wareing well in the center? If its just the sides showing ware you may need to put it up a bit.

As already noted, always take the pressure cold if you can. If you cannot, try to take it under the same running conditions so that at least you get a stable result. For example, just the drive to where the air site is at from your home each time, if you cannot take the temps in the morning and put air in at your house. Ambient temperatures and sun on the tires have an effect also, so that needs consideration. A sun side tire can be a good deal hotter than the one on the other side in the shade.

As per actual pressures used, it will need to vary a bit with the tire and with how you are setting up your suspension. I run 38 lbs in the fronts and 34 lbs in the rears on my summer Bridgestones to get an almost neutral steering result (just a touch of understeer, which I want), considering my other suspension changes. It all really depends a lot on what result you want to produce.
