Hey everyone,

This is my first winter with my set of winter wheels I got for a good deal last spring. I got the police interceptor 18' steelie wheels. In a nut shell, the tire sensor light is always on since I got the winter wheels installed. When I first drove my car home, the tire monitor system was fine, no tire light was on. The next day it was on. I called the place that installed them and they said its because the winter wheels have a different sensor then my factory 20's have. He said that I'd probably just have the tire sensor light on during the winter and when I put my summer wheels back on I should have no issue. I personally can't stand the tire light on my car, plus I would like to know when my tire is running low, without me eyeballing all 4 of my tires before driving. Does anyone have any advice on how to properly get my tires synced with my car? Any and all advice / comments are much appreciated!

Different sensor? Then the shop should have programmed the sensors from your winter tires to your car. Then when you put your summer tires back on, has to be programmed agian.

Different type of sensor? Then they messed up and should have made sure the sensors where compatible with the car. I know Ford early sensors were clipped onto metal bands on the rims and newer ones are attached to the valve stem and are not compatible. There might be more.

If that shop still won't help, call around to find a shop the knows the different sensors and will install the correct ones and program accordingly. I ran into the same issue when I installed late model rims on my daughters 2008. Suprisingly, discount tire had vast knowledge of the Ford different sensors, their time line and use.

Get the TPMS19 tool if you want to train them the factory way. Or look up videos on YouTube. A simple magnet might be all you need.

I had the same problem last winter when I changed to winter wheels and tires that I purchased from Tire Rack with the proper TPMS's. As I recall, went to the dealer, they reset the sensors for N/C. Did not have any problems when put the summer tires back on in spring, or when I put the winter tires on again this fall.

I would agree with the post above. I bought a set of rims/tires thru Tire Rack a couple winters ago. Did purchase the TPMS tool that is supposed to link the new sensors to the car. After doing that once with the new set installed, I was expecting that this was going to be a routine needed each swap, but found that switching between the 2 sets now does not light the dash indicator. There are different sensor styles, but Tire Rack provided the correct sensor w/the new set of rims/tires.

Buy the tool on ebay. Very simple to train the different sensors. takes literally about 3 minutes start to finish.

or buy the bluff device from eBay that will tell your car that all 4 tires have adequate pressure all the time and you don't have to jack with the stupid sensors going bad or being a different type or whatever.

Your profile pic shows a 10-12 Taurus and the police wheels came out for the 13+. 10-12 use a different sensor than the 13+. You are going to have to switch to the correct sensor.
