I have an intermittent clanking sound coming from the right side of the engine. Its not constant and someone mentioned that it is probably the timing chain tensioners so I am wondering, has anyone rebuilt these? What is it that usually causes this issue?

Right side from what point of view? From the front, so driver's side?

It could be tensioners, they're on that side. Might be something transmission related too.

Timing belt tensions are no longer available. You cannot get them new, doesn't exist at the dealer, and you cant run into an auto parts store to get them. I have known a few people who have attemped to get them new, but have failed.

You will need to go to the junkyard to get one.

If you are referring to the firewall side chain tensioner then yes.
I took mine off, cleaned it up and realized it was not that bad looking for 80k miles. I reinstalled it and it works fine now.
