timing belt went

i read some where that if the timing belts breaks, it wont damage the motor. is this true? is the belt in an sho an actual rubber belt or steele belt like other cars.

It uses an actual rubber belt as do many modern cars. The 'metal belt' is a timing chain.

There are two timing chains that connect each of the intake camshafts to the exhaust camshafts on both heads. The chain connecting the front bank camshafts looks like this. By the way, this is a picture of the valve train of a 269,000 mile SHO engine.
