Timing Belt Tensioner Q

I finished buttoning up my front 60K last weekend. It started up fine but I think I might have either tightened up the Timing Belt tensioner too much or the acceessory drive belts too much.

When I started it up, it sounds like it was whining from the front of the car and it was whining got louder as I gave it a little gas.

So, can you over tighten the timing belt tensioner or acc. drive belts too much? I'm assuming that they can. Is there any specs or directions available as to how tight these tensioners should be? I followed the SHOPhoenix website to the letter when doing the front 60K.

Oh, BTW, I also had the check engine light come on when I first started it up.

What brand of timing belt did you use?

I've got the same problem, only seems noticeable when hot. Timing belt has been like that since new 30,000 km ago.

Mine is a "Gates T248"

With the MTX you are supposed to let the spring tension the belt, put some tension on it, then release, then tighten the bolt.

You can try and back it off a bit through the access cover in the middle timing cover.

After reading the posts I think I must have tightened the Timing Belt Tensioner too much.

I bought the SHO source UDP and the Dayco acc. belt numbers that someone else here on the forum had purchased and didn't have a problem with. I believe that it's the Timing Belt Tensioner not the acc drive belts.
( I must be misspelling Tensioner because it every time it's in this post, it has the red line under it. Sorry SHO Forum. I swear I used the spell check)
