hey guys ill try to keep this one short.

My steering is hard and generally kind of klunky feeling, like sometimes it gets kinda stuck and you have to push it a little extra to get it past as your going around a gradual turn. this seems like it might be serious or maybe dangerous, anything i can check out?

Have you checked the power steering fluid?

If it is topped off, then it sounds like your rack is toast. How many miles on the car?

Could also be bad upper front strut mount bearings.
If you really have to wrestle the wheel it could be a broken upper coil on one of the front springs. (They tend to break where the second coil meets the cut end in compression. I always cut ~3" from the top coil of stock springs and bevel the underside of the cut before re-installing.)

subframe bushings.

when I bought my 91, the subframe bushings were really really bad, and turning the wheels at low speed caused the subframe to move and the rack to bind.

this was eventually the death of my power steering pump as well.

my 94 also encountered this problem. It was remedied when I had my aluminum subfram bushings installed...
