Hi

I'm not tech savvy here, can't fix it myself unless it's very simple (which I doubt it is), more or less trying to figure out what the problem is and if this needs immediate care and what the cost may be.

94 SHO ATX w/ about 133k miles. When I start the car there is a ticking sound coming from under the hood. It's not very loud but it's noticeable. It usually goes away when I hit 2nd gear, or maybe it just gets quieter because I have noticed it also in higher gears when there isn't a lot of noise from traffic, radio, etc. I noticed that sometimes (not always) at idle the tachometer will move around between 750-1250 and sometimes (not always) when doing this it will sound like the engine is revving slightly.

Also, shifting into 2nd gear is pretty rough, but no clunking or noise, if I'm accelerating rather slowly but not with mid-higher acceleration. It kinda feels like something slipped and caught on a little late.

Thanks

Also the check engine light comes on after between 2-8 minutes of driving and will sometimes go off for about the same amount of time.

Sounds like your in need of 60k, but more specifically a cam sensor.

But to tell us more you need to get the codes read to know what that Check Engine Light is trying to tell you. Your local auto parts store should have a reader to tell you what they are. And from there we will be able to help you better diagnosis the problems.
